Frank Zappa comes across as the sole voice of reason in this lively skirmish with the pinheads from CNN’s Crossfire, as well as John Lofton from the Washington Times. It’s from 1986, when Zappa was fresh from testifying before Congress during that whole PMRC/Tipper Gore/ “rock lyrics should be censored” folderol.
Listening to Zappa talk reminded me of the United Negro College Fund slogan: “A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste” — his mind of course. Imagine him, a song writer, denigrating the importance of words. Weird!
I don’t think Zappa’s point was that words are not important. But clearly in that company they were largely wasted.
